The MindMorph Method

The MindMorph Method is the way I, Maria "Masha" Steiner-Renoir, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C, practice integrative psychiatry: six clinical services and six supporting layers, held in one plan by one clinician, in person at the Lakewood, Colorado office and by secure video across Colorado and Oregon. I describe healing as a mosaic, where every element of care, from biology to belief, contributes to the whole. In practice that means an evaluation long enough to look for causes, treatment chosen from more than one toolbox, and labs, nutrition, therapy, and nervous-system work written into the same plan as any prescription.

The six core areas

Each personalized plan draws from six services. Nobody receives all six; the evaluation decides which ones fit.

Ketamine therapy (off-label)

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy: a low, prescribed dose of sublingual ketamine taken in a private room at the Lakewood office with me present, inside a course of preparation and integration sessions. Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic and not for any psychiatric disorder, so this is off-label use, considered for adults whose depression, anxiety, or trauma-related symptoms have not responded to standard care. A full psychiatric and medical evaluation comes first, and the service is self-pay with a superbill.

Spravato (esketamine) treatment

An FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior; the label also states it has not been shown to prevent suicide. It is taken only in the office under the FDA's REMS program, with about two hours of monitoring after each dose, never at home. Spravato is the ketamine-related treatment insurance most often covers, and MindMorph handles the prior authorization.

Therapy and counseling

Trauma-informed, mindfulness-based individual therapy for adults, in English or Russian, drawing on cognitive behavioral work, Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts work, and somatic approaches as the person needs. Sessions run about 50 minutes, in Lakewood or by video. Every plan at MindMorph includes a therapy component, because medication and ketamine-based treatments do their best work when there is somewhere to take what comes up. Therapy is also available on its own, without medication.

IFS therapy

Internal Family Systems parts work as its own course of therapy, for adults whose trauma, anxiety, or inner critic needs more than insight. Sessions run about 50 minutes, in Lakewood or by video, from an IFS Level 1 Certified clinician, with or without medication.

Psychedelic integration therapy

Talk therapy for before and after a psychedelic or other expanded-state experience: preparation, including a review of psychiatric medications and history for interactions and screening concerns, and integration afterward so what surfaced becomes something usable in daily life. Sessions combine mindfulness, somatic grounding, and lifestyle guidance. MindMorph does not provide, administer, or facilitate psilocybin or any other prohibited psychedelic. Integration is also offered after ketamine and Spravato sessions.

Holistic medication management

When medication belongs in the plan, it is prescribed with data and time: a 90-minute evaluation, pharmacogenomic and lab testing when they would change the choice, a plan the patient understands and agrees to, and follow-ups every two to four weeks until it is right. Tapering stays on the table when progress supports it; nothing is forever by default. I am licensed to prescribe in Colorado and Oregon, and most follow-ups happen by secure video.

The supporting layers

The layers surround the core treatments. They are options, not requirements; a plan uses the ones that add something.

Layer What it is When it is used
Lab testing Thyroid, cholesterol, blood sugar, liver and kidney function, inflammation markers, and nutrient levels such as vitamin D, magnesium, and B12 When a biological contributor to mood or energy needs finding or ruling out
Supplements and nutraceuticals Individualized vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and plant-based nutraceuticals When labs show a deficiency, since low levels of some nutrients can look like anxiety, fatigue, or depression
Pharmacogenomic testing A genetic test showing how the body metabolizes specific medications When past medications did little or caused side effects at ordinary doses, to narrow the next choice
Mindfulness and breathwork Structured breathing, grounding, and somatic awareness, taught in session and practiced at home Within therapy, and in ketamine and Spravato integration sessions to anchor what came up
Heat and cold therapy Weighted neck scarves, gently warmed or cooled During or after emotionally intense sessions, to help the body settle
Therapeutic environment A private, low-lit room with a place to recline, eye shades, a soft or weighted blanket, and music chosen for the session Every ketamine and Spravato session at the Lakewood office

How this differs from a standard visit

A conventional psychiatric visit is often fifteen minutes with a prescriber, a symptom checklist, and a therapist somewhere else, if there is one. The MindMorph Method changes four things.

  • Time. The initial evaluation runs 90 minutes: symptoms, history, every medication tried and what each one did, sleep, nutrition, stress, trauma history, and medical context. Follow-ups come every two to four weeks while a plan is being adjusted, and response is reviewed at every visit.
  • One clinician. The same person does the evaluation, the prescribing, the Spravato supervision, and the therapy, so nothing has to be re-explained between offices. Patients who already have a therapist keep them; I coordinate with that therapist with consent.
  • Causes before prescriptions. Labs and genetic testing are ordered when they are likely to change the plan, which sometimes means a lab panel before a new medication rather than after the third one fails.
  • More than one toolbox. Medication is one tool among several. Therapy, nutrition, breathwork, and the treatment environment carry weight alongside any prescription, and a plan can be therapy alone, medication alone, or a combination that includes Spravato or ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

Results vary by individual, and no element of the method works for everyone.

Where the method is practiced

In person at the Lakewood office, where the Spravato and ketamine sessions happen, and by secure video for adults anywhere in Colorado and Oregon. Care is available in English and Russian.

Getting started

It begins with a free consultation by video or phone, a short conversation about what is going on and whether this practice is the right place for it. If it is, the next step is the 90-minute evaluation, and the patient leaves it with a written plan. Book a consultation or call (720) 504-2181.

Healing, as I put it, is a mosaic of science and heart.

Questions

An integrated model in which psychiatry, therapy, and wellness practices work as one plan held by one clinician. Six services (ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, Spravato, therapy and counseling, IFS therapy, psychedelic integration therapy, and medication management) sit on supporting layers such as lab and genetic testing, nutrition, mindfulness and breathwork, and a calm treatment environment, coordinated instead of siloed.

Psychiatric care that treats medication as one tool among several. Alongside evidence-based prescribing, an integrative clinician looks at sleep, nutrition, stress, trauma history, and lab or genetic data, and brings therapy and lifestyle work into the same plan. At MindMorph it is practiced by a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, not a psychiatrist.

Appointments are longer: a 90-minute evaluation and follow-ups every two to four weeks while a plan is adjusted. The whole person is assessed rather than a symptom list, one clinician does the evaluation, prescribing, and therapy, and modalities are combined deliberately, with therapy and lifestyle carrying as much weight as prescriptions.

No. The layers are options, not requirements. A plan uses the pieces that fit the person's goals and biology: someone may need therapy alone, another medication with pharmacogenomic testing, another Spravato with integration sessions. Lab work, supplements, and breathwork are added when they would change the plan, not by default.

No. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and Spravato are two of six services and are considered only after a full evaluation, for adults whose symptoms have not responded to standard care. Many patients are seen for therapy, medication management, or both, in person in Lakewood or by secure video across Colorado and Oregon.
