Major Depressive Disorder
Major depressive disorder is more than a low mood: a persistent drop in mood, interest, energy, sleep, and concentration that lasts at least two weeks and reaches into work, relationships, and health. It is a treatable condition. MindMorph treats depression with a thorough evaluation first, then a plan built from therapy, carefully chosen medication, and attention to sleep, nutrition, and stress, with Spravato or ketamine-assisted psychotherapy held in reserve for depression that has not responded to standard care. Care is in person in Lakewood, CO and by secure video for adults in Colorado and Oregon. No referral is needed.
What major depressive disorder is
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a depressed mood or loss of interest that lasts most of the day, nearly every day, for at least two weeks, together with changes in sleep, appetite, energy, concentration, or self-worth that affect how you function. It is a medical and psychological condition in which neurotransmitters, hormones, inflammation, and life stress all play a part, and it affects energy, sleep, motivation, and even immune function, not only mood. Common symptoms:
- Persistent sadness, emptiness, or irritability
- Fatigue and loss of motivation
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Sleep and appetite changes
- Guilt, hopelessness, or worthlessness
- Physical pain or a heaviness in the body
Depression can be episodic or chronic, mild or severe, and it often hides inside people who are still functioning well at work. The label gets you in the door; the person beneath it is what gets treated.
How depression is diagnosed here
Through a 90-minute psychiatric evaluation of your symptoms, history, medical context, prior treatments, sleep, substances, and what a good outcome would look like for you, rather than a single questionnaire. Screening tools are used, but they are a starting point. Labs and pharmacogenomic testing are ordered when the result is likely to change the plan.
How MindMorph treats depression
The sequence mirrors the one used for treatment-resistant depression, starting with the least invasive options and stepping up only when needed:
- Therapy and somatic integration: CBT, mindfulness-based therapy, and somatic work to rebuild emotional resilience and meaning, on its own or alongside medication
- Medication management: prescriptions informed by pharmacogenomic and lab testing to identify what your body can process well, reviewed every two to four weeks while being tuned
- Mindfulness and breathwork: practices rooted in polyvagal theory to regulate mood and reconnect mind and body, taught in session
- Nutrition and supplement support: correcting deficiencies in vitamin D, B12, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids when labs show them
- Spravato (esketamine): FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression and for depressive symptoms in adults with MDD with acute suicidal ideation or behavior, given in person with monitoring
- Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy: off-label sublingual ketamine within guided psychotherapy, considered when standard care has not helped
Results vary by individual, and not every step applies to everyone. Many people never need steps five and six.
When depression feels stuck
Even with good treatment, depression can persist when deeper factors go unaddressed: genetic variation in how medications are metabolized, inflammation or thyroid imbalance, nutrient deficiencies and gut disruption, chronic stress or unresolved trauma, and disconnection from purpose or community. These are looked for, not assumed away. If two adequate medication trials have not helped, the treatment-resistant depression page describes what comes next.
What a first visit looks like
A free consultation by phone or video, then the evaluation. Bring a list of medications you have tried and what each did. You leave with a written plan and a follow-up date. Most follow-ups are by video; Spravato and ketamine sessions, if they ever become part of the plan, are in person in Lakewood.
How to prepare
Write down roughly when this episode started, what was happening in your life then, and every treatment you have tried, including supplements and therapy, with what each one did. Note your sleep over the past two weeks and anything that reliably makes a day better or worse. If a family member has been treated for depression or bipolar disorder, say so; it shapes medication choices. None of this has to be polished. It saves time that is better spent on you.
Cost and insurance
Evaluation, therapy, medication management, and Spravato are in network with a number of Colorado and Oregon plans; current lists and self-pay rates are on the insurance and payment page. Superbills are provided for out-of-network plans. Coverage cannot be guaranteed.
The MindMorph difference
Depression rarely exists in isolation; it is part of a larger pattern across brain, body, and circumstances, so psychiatry, psychotherapy, nutrition, and nervous-system work sit in one plan. You work with a dual board-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner who reviews your biology and your life context and designs care that fits, at a pace that respects both.
When standard care has not worked, Spravato and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy are available from the same clinician, with no referral to a second clinic. Lab work, therapy, and mindfulness belong to one plan, and the clinician is trauma-informed and treats care as a partnership. Care is available in English and Russian. The aim is to get the ordinary parts of a day back.
Next step
You do not have to carry this alone. Book a consultation or call (720) 504-2181.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. This practice does not provide emergency services.

Questions
Through a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of your symptoms, history, medical context, and prior treatments, not a single questionnaire. The core criteria are depressed mood or loss of interest most of the day, nearly every day, for at least two weeks, with changes in sleep, appetite, energy, or concentration. Labs are added when they may change the plan.
Therapy, carefully chosen medication guided by pharmacogenomic and lab testing, and lifestyle supports for sleep, nutrition, and stress. For depression that has not responded to standard care, Spravato (esketamine), which is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression, and off-label ketamine-assisted psychotherapy are considered. Results vary by individual.
No referral is needed. You can book a free consultation directly by phone or video, and if MindMorph is the right fit, schedule the initial evaluation from there. If you have records from a previous prescriber or therapist, bringing them helps, but they are not required to be seen.
Yes. Evaluation, therapy, and most medication care work well over secure video for adults physically located in Colorado or Oregon at the time of the visit. Spravato and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy sessions are the exception: those are in person at the Lakewood, Colorado office with monitoring.
